Sweet Asian sesame balls

  1. 400 g rice flour
  2. 280 ml water
  3. sesame oil for handling
  4. 400 g red bean paste (Anko)
  5. 100 g toasted sesame seeds
  6. 1 L oil for deep-frying
  7. liquid honey for drizzling

1. Put the rice flour in a bowl. Slowly pour the water in the flour and stir until it forms a crumbly dough (light sand-like texture).

2. Rub your hands with some sesame oil and make approx. 32 balls out of the dough.

3. Make a well in the center of the balls, place some bean paste inside and seal the balls.

4. Lightly moisten each sesame ball with some water and roll in the sesame. Gently press down the sesame.

5. Add oil to the wok, heat on highest level up to the roasting window and switch to medium level. Add 8 sesame balls to the hot oil.

6. Deep-Fry without lid, turning occasionally until the sesame balls are a golden brown color. Then remove and let drain on paper towel. Deep-fry the remaining sesame balls in the same manner.

7. The sesame balls are best served warm and drizzled with honey.
